The Dolphins marked the start of the second SCS trilogy which was called “Mother and Child”. The Dolphins were extremely popular when launched, and there was a time when they were on back-order. The “Mother and Child” trilogy is unique for 2 reasons: this is the only time (to date) when a single designer (Michael Stamey) has designed all 3 pieces of a trilogy, and when an entire trilogy has been made from clear crystal with no frosted crystal components. The Dolphins are made from clear crystal and they are swimming on top of a clear crystal wave. A clear crystal plaque was available for purchase for display with the trilogy.
First piece in the Mother and Child Trilogy, this edition features an optical illusion in the crystal, namely, by using straight facets to give the impression of something round. Fully cut crystal dolphins on moulded crystal wave base.

Available during 1992, the Whales were the final piece in the “Mother and Child” series. The “Mother and Child” trilogy is unique for 2 reasons: this is the only time when a single designer has designed all 3 pieces of a trilogy, and when an entire trilogy has been made from clear crystal with no frosted crystal components. The Whales are made from clear crystal and they are swimming on top of a clear wave. It is believed that the whales are Humpback Whales. A “Mother and Child” clear crystal plaque was available for purchase for display with the trilogy.

The “Mother and Child” trilogy is unique for 2 reasons: this is the only time when a single designer has designed all 3 pieces of a trilogy, and when an entire trilogy has been made from clear crystal with no frosted crystal components. The Seals are made from clear crystal and they are sitting on top of a clear ice floe. A “Mother and Child” clear crystal plaque was available for purchase for display with the trilogy.
